Flag Retirement Program

At Claytor Rollins Funeral Home and Crematory, we have the honor of caring for many Veterans in our community. When a Veteran chooses cremation, we ask their family if they would like us to honor them by draping an U.S. flag across their loved one at the time of cremation. It is a fitting tribute to veterans and a patriotic way to “retire” aged flags. Many of us may have an older U.S. flag that might be tattered, torn, or faded and no longer appropriate for display. At the end of its lifespan, the U.S. flag deserves a proper retirement. In fact, the United States Code stipulates that “When a U.S. flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” By donating your flag to our Flag Retirement Program, you can be assured that it will be handled with the utmost respect and care. We accept flag donations year-round – no matter the size or condition. So, if you have an old U.S. flag that needs to be retired, consider donating it. It's a meaningful way to show respect for the flag and the sacrifices made by those who have served our country.
